Do not go into the woods today... from StartsWithR&EndsWithS on 8tracks Radio.

I've fallen in love with 8tracks.com and have made a fairytale based mix to occupy my mind. Enjoy. Apologies to people on LJ - you'll have to click through to the site because LJ refuses to recognize it.

So, Aunt J totally broke my Fall Out Boy curse when I was in DC. IDK if I mentioned it but I had TERRIBLE luck seeing them which I told her about and she was like COME WE SHALL FIX THIS! and we did because Aunt J is the best J. However, they are coming back to Atlanta this summer. YAAAAAY! With Paramore(so unimpressed. I'm bringing my Nook - so serious). However after I saw them in DC I joined Overcast Kids which means I actually got presale tickets and was able to grab tix to the meet&greet thing. FINALLY! CHECKING THE LAST OF THE BOYS OFF THE LIST!

When this is complete, I will have met all of the bandom boys except Bob Bryar including Cobra(but not including Bill Beckett). Yeah. But mostly - FULL FALL OUT BOY CONCERT. OUTSIDE IN THE CRAZY. THREE DAYS AFTER SDCC. OH ITS GONNA BE ON.

Still got a lot of spots open for topics for the Talking Meme for February. You can find it here. Personal, political, musical, literal, fandom, opinion, familial, sexual, object-related, whatever else - ask. There is much space! Use it please please?

Sometimes I think about Dolores and am just...stunned she's not in the world anymore. It's been just over 5 months. I just keep having these times when I'm blindsided by how deeply I'm effected. It knocks the wind out of me - what she did, how angry I am, how heartbroken, how bereft. I look at my family and wonder if they're okay - if they're feeling like I am, like something's been hollowed out and scraped away. I dont know. It's hard to tell to be frank. My mom doesnt talk much about her and my bio sister and I talk so rarely I cant even begin to guess.

I think part of it is the fact that My Chemical Romance's new tracks were leaked. Boy Divison and Tomorrow's Money has NOTHING to do with her but those boys, that band - they remind me that I can feel, that I DO feel. Releasing something new reminds me that they exist, that they're real and solid and for some reason it brings into shocking contrast that Dolores DOESNT anymore. I love My Chemical Romance even more for this. I really do.

I ache. I cry. But goddamnit I can feel this pain. A year ago, when I was in the hospital - I was so sick that I COULDNT feel. Now I can and I'm so grateful for that. I can't really articulate how much.

So, this is my third year bandom anniversary. It's not the exact day but back in 2009, the Monday after Comiccon I read my first MCR fanfic sitting at the Richard Walker Pancake House in San Diego California and my life started to change. It's the monday after ComicCon and once again, I'm in the Richard Walker Pancake House, taking stock of the year and listening to bandom.

You guys have no idea how big an impact this fandom had on me this year. The friends I made through this fandom held me up through some of the worst times of my life. The MCR and PATD concerts and the music. The music you guys.

In October, I ended up on a locked psychiatric ward for 7 days. One of the rules was no music. However, one of the female CNAs brought her ipod and speaker and she gave it to me for half an hour. I put on I'm Not Okay, Helena, Famous Last Words and Welcome to the Black Parade, curled up in my shitty hospital room and cried with relief at finally, finally finally being able to reach out and have my band to comfort me in the grim silence where people would scream at night and sob during the day.

Knowing that Pete and Mikey both have bipolar helped me push through treatment for the last 9 months of long term treatment. They've been my heroes, reminding me that people like me can lives like that if they try.

When my foster sister killed herself in May, Welcome to the Black Parade and Helena helped me grieve for her, helped me scream and sob until I could think and feel and breathe again.

Through all of this I spent hours and hours on chat or twitter with bandom friends who held me up against the crushing weight of the struggles and fights I've faced this year.

I'm discharging from my treatment center in the next few weeks. I feel mostly whole. It wasnt all bandom but it'd be a fucking lie to say that the music and the people in bandom didnt save my life at least in part.

My life isn't a symptom anymore and I plan to keep running.

Thanks guys. I love you.

Glorious. My Chemical Romance tonight was fucking. Fucking. Glorious. They were so very on tonight that the electricity in the amphitheater was palpable. I will write a full con-report tomorrow with video(I have video of the entire set) and a slew of pictures. Tonight - just one of Frank wearing a killjoy mask. )

This post is going to be full of stuff about my encounters with MCR members and anyone else tangentially connected to the Ways such as comic writers or artists, wives, and the long suffering staff members of Dark Horse. So, if Umbrella Academy or My Chemical Romance arent your bag, feel free to skip this. Other SDCC stuff will be in other posts :D

AND NOW FOR THE GERARD SPAM! So not dial up friendly. No, seriously, there's dozens and dozens. I wish I were kidding. /o\ ) AH! GRANT MORRISON AND LYN-Z WAY! )

Only. Saturday morrning, I came downstairs with my roommate Carol at around 9am - dressed in the cut to shit, extra long Ghostbusters t-shirt I'd slept in, a pair of shorts, flip flops and no makeup or anything and walk into the restaurant and come face to face with Gerard Way, standing by a table, having coffee. He spotted me, lifted a hand and fucking WAVED at me and said "Hey. Morning!" Nothing will wake your ass up like that kind of adrenaline rush, I promise. )

Sunday morning I managed to grab a picture with him because I came down for breakfast again and *waves a hand* There he was. Again. )

Mom's home from her cruise. I missed her but mostly? I missed having someone to call when I had what could've been the beginings of an MRSA outbreak. This is a BFD for me and it was not fun to go through that sort of panic alone. Yeah, I saw my therapist an extra time over that crap. Also, I was dog sitting an adorable TERROR. Oh, and somewhere in all that I got a virus so bad that it took FOUR HOURS with tech support to resolve it - and required installing like 3 different kinds of virus removers/scanners. Not fun, I dont suggest it.

That said, everything is good now. I got a massive amount done tonight. I paid my credit card bill \o/ I booked my flight to ComicCon (it cost me $30 round trip. Thank you very much Delta. Pleasure doing business with you, I'll be sure to give up my seat more in future *bows*) \o/ I bought my ticket to the Honda Civic Tour (because damnit, I cannot see MCR too many times in one year. Also? BLINK 182!!!) \o/ RWrote some letters in regards to getting jobs! \o/

Now I'm trying to make myself chill and go to sleep and I am staring at my BBB and wondering why the hell I thought participating was a good idea. Of course then I look at my gorgeous art and mixes and am like "oh yeah" but still, to quote Dana Marschz "OH MY GOD! WRITING IS SO HARD!"

And now, for those of you playing along at home, quotes from class #2 of Astronomy.

So....Friday I went to see a little band called Panic At the Disco. Maybe you've heard of them? Their lead singer Brendon Urie broke his fucking foot walking off stage tonight. He's a speshul snowflake like that. I went with my mother and my sister - though I have to say I doubted their commitment to Sparkle Motion Panic. IT was nice. My sister wore the PATD tank i bought her in London and my mom was in mom-concert-mode which is to say - woman's a rockstar but her shoulder isnt so good so she tends to stand a bit back.

I got there first and held the spot in line and while I did I discovered through [livejournal.com profile] eledhwenlin that [livejournal.com profile] likeaglass was inside! YAY FANDOM PERSON! Gigging without a fellow fanatic somewhere in the vicinity just isnt as fun, not that mom and Hillary arent aces.

Foxy Shazam were amazing. They were less scary than when I saw them with The Young Vein (and isnt that just the weirdest full circle? Yes, yes it is) but I think that is because there was less of a chance that Eric the lead singer would light me on fire or fall on me or anything like that. They're an impressive band, yall. Their music isnt always to my taste but those insane fuckers put on one of the most energetic, interesting, enthusiastic live shows I've ever seen - yes including my beloved bandom boys. I think they may be too intense to ever get really famous though but I would go to another of their shows if it was cheap.

fun. was all right. I'm not a huge fan. It's lacking something I just dont know what. They seem very talented and maybe, like Lost Alone and The Blackout they would grow on my given time but with just one show to impress me? They didnt.

Then there was Panic. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY PANIC! Brendon was ON tonight. Hell they all were. I managed to get from near the bar to one/two people back from the barricade by the time the boys came out so I had a really really great view. Ian won me over as I was on his side. That man is a powerhouse and he was on fire. He and Brendon had really great stage chemistry particularly during the closing. Dallon was Dallon. He and Brendon are ridiculous together. I love them, you guys. They press their foreheads together and Dallon cradles the back of Brendon's head. They interlaced their fingers and Brendon kissed the back of his hand. SO CUTE AND CHARMING. Spencer *sighs* I love Spencer but its so hard to SEE him. It's hard to see him and its hard to see how he interacts with the boys. Which sucks. I would've liked a better view because what I could see was awesome. He actually spoke tonight - he got a picture from behind the drumkit and asked us all to pose and Dallon and Ian crossed their guitars while Brendon posed and we all cheered. They played Trade Mistakes and Hurricane which - aside from one of the bonus tracks - are my fucking all time favorites off V&V so I was a happy happy panda.

And I managed to get a few pictures. They're mostly not so great. They were taken with my new camera's phone so the fact that I got as many decent pics as I did is an actualfax miracle. Hope you enjoy :D

A mostly Brendon-centric picspam as he was closest to me most of the time )

They closed with Carry On My Wayward Son because they want to inspire the SPN fangirls in the audience to write crossovers and Nearly Witches because its gorgeous and just a really solid closing number.

Afterwards, I met back up with my mother and sister to exchange hugs and recaps before they left. I went out to band-stalk and met up with [livejournal.com profile] likeaglass to wait. And oh, wait we did. *grins* Zach declared they werent coming out (which I honestly didnt believe because how many times have I heard that? A lot. Its only true half the time.) We talked bandom boys and the show and watched them pack up and load the trucks and the various bands mill around the parking lot. One of the shinging moments of the WHOLE NIGHT was spotting Zach carrying a translucent bong the size of an infant to the bus. I am not even kidding. Surprisingly, around 1am, after Zach had dragged Ian to the bus by his snazzy jacket, Spencer Smith comes out. He's not the most social creature so I was more than a little shocked. Then of course he got up close to us and it became apparent what the giant bong had been used for. [livejournal.com profile] likeaglass and I are CONVINCED that the conversasion went like this-

Spencer: *takes a deep hit off the bong* You know what'd be cool? Going out to meet the fans.
Zach: You dont ever go out and meet the fans.
Spencer: *exhales the smoke* Yeah but this time it'd be awesome.
Zach: No. We have to be in Florida in X hrs.

But then Zach caved because out he came, baked like a fucking chocolate chip cookie. Zach was harried because that is just how Zach rolls but Spencer was all friendly and smiling giving hugs and stopping for pictures. He's lovely, even if he was so clearly high. Whatever, it was almost cute.

Then he got to us. Now I'm not really a Spencer Smith girl. I'm a Gerard Way girl. I'm a Mikey Way girl. I'm a Pete Wentz girl. I'm a Patrick Stump girl. I have epic, long-winded things to say to them. Spencer? Not so much. Just hi, here's my stuff. However, I did feel compelled to point out that my companion had been following them around the country as she handed him the setlist Ian gave her. He blinked at it and said "I didn't give you that did I?" "No, Ian did" "Yeah, because I remember who I gave mine too." Oookay, Spencer. Then he CIRCLED C'MON ON THE SET LIST and talked about how this was the first time they played it, even though we'd told him that she's been following him. I just... the fact that he felt the need to circle it, just to make it CLEAR is what makes that whole thing so delicious.

I have video. It happened. You can watch it if you want but you have to listen to my voice and its shaky as hell but hey, its technically new canon so some people may want that.

Also, I got video of them playing Lying... It's not a great video but Brendon talks about how he is an advocate of "casual sex with strangers" which - all the fic. All the fic in the world - write it for me please. Plus, you know, its just a hot song. Next concert I go to will have much better pictures and video, I promise :D

Anyway, that was my night. It was awesome. Feel free to come back by anytime boys. We would love to have you.

MCR sound check Party and concert recap! So, me and Ash took the MARTA train into downtown and arrived at the Tabernacle at 4 for the sound check. There were maybe 25 people there and they checked us by names and ushered us into the building (though my mom didn't get there in time from work which sucked considering she made it happen) once we were checked off the list. The 99x guys gave us the song and dance about how we couldnt have our cameras or our phones in our hands at all because "this is a real working sound check you guys. They'll probably play a couple songs for you but they're working so no requests, no shouting or anything." and we all bob our heads and promise to be good because seriously, whatever you want radio dudes, just let me the fuck in there. First though, they gave out autographed posters because while the guys had time to come do pictures, they didnt have time to do autographs? Whatever, I was happy but mostly, wanted to get in there, which yay, we finally did.

Empty room, you guys. The venue was freaking empty and as I walked in, being the spazz that I am, I waved. Gerard waved back! Then they led us to stand about 50 feet back from the stage out of the way to watch. They were gorgeous as always but they were out of their show "uniforms" which was so amazing.

Here, let me tell you what they were wearing. I'm that lame. )

It felt kind of like wandering into a fic, if I'm honest. It was so cool, getting to see how it worked from the inside. Lots of crazy tweaking and twingeing and adjusting sound levels. Ray in particular had a lot of things to say because he is a musical tech geek and I adore him. The first thing they played was Na Na Na - because apparently it had a range they needed to test? Don't care, they basically played it for an audience of *us* twenty-five. So much less energy then live and YET? The man cannot stop himself cocking his leg and planting his hand on his hip. He can try but he fails because his diva powers are too strong. Oddly, Ash and I were the only one rocking out. Granted, the fact that the lights were on and you knew for a fact that they could see straight across the theater to us probably inhibited a lot of people. Apparently Mikey's bass was heavier than before for that one and Ray really liked it. Dewees and Pedicone were there too and Dewees had a lot of tweaking. It was pretty cool, to see just how much of the show depends on his equipment. Medhi was everywhere being awesome and the Head Bastard In Charge and I fell in love with all of them all over again.

They played Planetary which was just, unf. That never doesn't energize me although it was WAY different to see it played in a non-show way. Much less Frank flailing though Ray rocks hard regardless. <3 They also did Give 'Em Hell possibly for Mikey's awesome bass and Ghost of You. Gorgeous, both of them, and GoY is not my favorite most of the time. But the setting was so intimate that it really hit me in a way it doesnt usually. Ash and I danced and swayed to every song and then did golf-claps because we werent supposed to disrupt. Next to was a 14yo girl and her mom and the girl was crying through the whole sound check which made my heart ache because oh, baby girl, I know. I've been there.

Gerard, Ray, Pedicone and Dewees left the stage which left Mikey and Frank on their own. Frank had switched guitars by that point and he and Mikey played Summertime - just the two of them. I do not even know, you guys, but it was gorgeous. It was stripped down but lovely. When they were done sorting it out, Mikey left the stage and then Frank wandered to the middle of the stage because his mic wasn't on and used Gerard's mic to talk to the sound guy. The exchange went like this.

Frank: *stands on his tip-toes to reach the mic* "I've got two different settings and I can't tell which one's better." *goes down*
Sound guy: "Let's hear it."
Frank: *stands on his tip-toes to reach the mic* "Okay this is A." *goes down and plays the intro to Summertime* *stands on his tip-toes to reach the mic* "And this is B." *goes down and plays the intro to Summertime* "Apples and oranges right?"
Sound guy: Yeah pretty much.
Frank: *grins and goes up on his tip-toes to talk into the mic* "Okay, I'm just going to go with what's easier then and do A."

How cute? So cute. He is the tiniest and I want to keep him in my pocket.

After that, the radio station people broke us into groups of five or six and spaced us out to meet the guys. Ash and I were in the 3rd group out of 4, so we watched them come out and shake hands and do a little bit of "Hi I'm ___. Glad you could make it" etc and then take the pictures. Then they got to us.

Gerard got over to us first and I think he shook Ash's hand first, then held it out to me and goes "Hi, I'm Gerard," which of course you are. Mikey, Ray and Frank introduced themselves too and then I said "Yeah, I know who you are. I met you at ComicCon last year. I was the girl who cried and bled at you. I'm really sorry about that."

At which point Gerard's eyes went wide and hey, he suddenly recognizes me and he goes "Oh yeah! That was you? Yeah, I remember you." Then he turned to the rest of the guys and goes, "I told you about this right?" They looked a little confused and then he turns back to me and goes "Is it cool if I tell this?" and I was like "Yeah, please go for it." And Gerard goes "I was doing a signing," (to me) "Was it with Gab?" Me: "Yeah it was for Umbrella Academy." Gerard: "Yeah, and you were already crying but then your nose started bleeding and it was just gushing - just this flood down everywhere."

At which point, the guys seemed rather impressed, according to Ash, Ray was jealous though we both remember that he said "Thats not fair. No one's ever bled for me." Frank's response to the whole story was "That's so awesome" and then he gave me another handshake, lol. Mikey was like "Oh yeah, I remember you told me about that." Then Gerard asked what actually happened so I told them briefly about my breakdown last summer and how their music and their struggles helped me get myself help and ended with "I was newly medicated and already really fragile. I get nosebleeds sometimes and I was just so overwhelmed to meet you. I remember your panel where you dodged my friends comment about the killjoys though."

They all seemed really touched by that and I think Frank said something along the lines of "good for you" but Gerard looked horrified at the panel comment and said it was the most difficult panel he's ever done because he couldn't talk about it. "Yeah, and you were blond then. I asked Lindsey what it was for and she didn't really have an answer." Gerard: "I was probably getting ready to go red." Then he shrugged and was like "I may go blond again this summer." Then Ray was like "Wait, was that the one with the Hawaiian shirt?" and I go, "Yeah and you wore sunglasses too. It was very Seance." At which point Ray was like "Oh yeah," and Mikey's gave this little amused look and said "You were there, man." and pointed out how he was there Then I asked if Gerard wore the Hawaiian shirt and sunglasses like the Seance on purpose and he said "No, I got the Hawaiian shirt first and then it sort of worked its way into the comic for Seance. That's how it usually happens," which I think is really cool to know.

Then Gerard said "God, I hope they dont give me a panel this year because I don't have a comic." And I was like "I'd go anyway," because I'm a ridiculous fangirl. And then I shut the fuck up because I was kind of monopolizing the band - shame on me seriously but no one else really had anything to say? Just "uh hi?" which I get - totally. That was my reaction when I met them the first time, 100%. And the 14 year old girl who cried looked up at Frank when he got to her and shook her hand and blurted out "Oh my god, I adore you." and I dont remember what he said back but it was a mix of thank you and something like "thats so sweet of you" and my heart grew THREE FUCKING SIZES OH MY GOD. Band, you are the sweetest and most earnest and I love you desperately. Then we took a picture and I talked to Frank SUPER briefly about the Barcelona signing (he was surprised I was there because, hi, Spain to Georgia?) but he remembered drawing the tattoo for that girl which is awesome. After that, they said goodbye and moved on to group 4 who were already posed for a picture as we were ushered out into the lobby.

After soundcheck - reunited with the parental unit for dinner and A ROCK SHOW OMG! )

And now for the part of the show you probably came for - VIDEO AND PICTURE SPAM! There's a lot half a dozen videos (not the complete concert but I got Saint Sorrows so if you like to watch Frank cross himself, you are in luck :D) and over metric fuckton of pictures. Some of the pictures suck - I've tried to weed out the truly recognizable ones. Some of them are FUCKING AWESOME. Ash let me use her camera and I'm actually really proud of a couple of the ones I snagged, no lie. So, without further ado,

Yeah, I remember you." Then he turned to the rest of the guys and goes, "I told you about this right?" They looked a little confused and then he turns back to me and goes "Is it cool if I tell this?" and I was like "Yeah, please go for it."
