I just started Magic City and ugh. Jeffery Dean Morgan in white tuxedos, mobsters, and a cast of characters who are mostly Jewish. You often hear people of color and the LGBTQ community talk about not seeing themselves on TV and I feel that way about a lack of Jewish characters on my screen but not with Magic City. Yes it's a premium channel show about a hotel and mobsters so its horrible people doing horrible things but still. Representation, for once *I* can have it.

HI! SO REMEMBER THAT TIME WHERE I GOT AN INTERVIEW WITH THE CREATOR OF A REVOLUTIONARY NEW TV SHOW BEFORE ANYONE ELSE BY MORE THAN SIX HOURS. REMEMBER HOW I SCOOPED MAJOR ENTERTAINMENT NEWS OUTLETS LIKE VARIETY MAGAZINE AND THEN MY ARTICLE "What is Siberia" WAS BOTH REFERENCED BY AND LINKED TO BY VARIETY MAGAZINE'S WEBSITE IN THIS ARTICLE RIGHT HERE? BECAUSE I DO! AND IT WAS AWESOME! IT WAS SUPER GREAT!

I DRINK FROM THE KEG OF GLORY! BRING ME THE FINEST MUFFINS AND BAGELS IN ALL THE LAND!

(You can do magic believe it or not bibbiddy bobbiddy boo.)

I did a phone interview with the creator/director/writer Matthew Arnold of NBC's Siberia on Friday. I've had to keep it on my locked filter but now the article is posted so I can throw up a link.

Also if you are curious now but didnt ask to be on my little cant-go-public list, I've unlocked the past entry where I freak out :D Thats how this whole thing is going to work over the next few weeks btw. I freak out behind lock posts. The situation is resolved. I unlock the post. :D

So now, the finished product. Click the link to What Is Sibera to read the article and if you like, there's a link to recording of the full interview with Matt at the bottom so you can hear my dulcet tones ;P

Since this is my journal I'm going to be brutally honest - my editor cut a lot of my writing out of this piece without talking to me about it. I guess thats just how these things go. However the interview was really great and honestly, there is a lot of stuff both in the article and the interview that the bigger trade rags just didn't touch on that I think make a lot of difference. I wish more of my voice was still in there but I managed to get the interviewee's voice out and that's more important so I'm really really proud of this one. If you like me even a little, please circulate this piece(even if this sort of thing isn't your thing) - tweet it, share it on facebook, reblog it on tumblr, whatever.

This is the first time I feel like a real journalist. I got information no one else did. I buit the piece around the interview and I got it out there. It's been a long time since I had something to be proud of besides the small in-home victories. It's nice to feel like I'm making career victories too.

(HOCKEY PEOPLE: Yes I did notice that Siberia is where Geno is from. Yes, that is something that caught my attention. No its not in the article but I totes freaking noticed and maybe it drew me even more towards writing about this series. I CANT HELP IT I JUST LOVE HIS STUPID SIBERIAN MVP FACE. However that was just a bonus.)

Heya! In my effort to get back into the swing of journaling I thought I'd let yall know that my review for this weeks haven is up at Den of Geek. If you want to read it, it's up here. I wrote it on a 4 hour writing binge so by the time I was finished I was nearly high. Having these assignments are kind of amazing in terms of training and changing the way I write. If you do read it, please let me know what you thought? Thanks. It's not exactly a medium that gets a lot of feedback ya know?

So! I watched some STUFF this week. I finally saw the Losers and oh, you guys. Jake Jensen, Col. Clay, Pooch, Roque, Aisha. Gorgeous, amazing, hilarious, fabulous fucking movie that only makes me want Avengers more than ever because Chris. Evans. I love you and everything you do. You work best in a team environment and I can't wait for you to come back on my cinema screen. Also, Jeffrey Dean Morgan should get to smile and have sex in more things. Why doesnt he do that more often? Anyway, moral of the story: I need the source material and I need it now. WHY ARE COMPLETE VOLUMES OF COMICS SO EXPENSIVE? *will probably wait until ComicCon and get it on sale from wherever*

Also watched Walking Dead with [livejournal.com profile] guest_age. To quote First Wives Club in regards to my feelings "I HAVE ALL OF THEM". I dont really know how to deal with that show. It's disturbing and sexy and sad and brilliant and enfuriating and all of the things TV should be. In exchange, I've got her watching Dexter. That's a fun exercise in "watching your best friend spazz like a six year old." Seriously, ever other second she's hitting me with questions. It's adorable. "Is Deb the Ice Truck Killer?" "Is Masuka the Ice Truck Killer?" "Is it Angel? Because so far he seems like a good suspect." "Its his dad isnt it! He faked his death and now he's testing Dexter TELL ME IM RIGHT! HAVE WE AT LEAST MET THE GUY/GIRL ON SCREEN YET?"

:D Not going to lie - I'm enjoying her reaction more than the actual show - and I love that show.

Anyway, I start outpatient next week. Yay? /o\

Dear lord. Australian people on my Flist - why didnt you tell me about Spirited? WHY? It's possibly the best thing I've watched in AGES. Brilliant. It's so brilliant oh my good lord. YOU ARE ALL FIRED FOR NOT TELLING ME ABOUT IT! FIRED I SAY!

Basic story - our two leads (featured in my icon being FUCKING ADORABLE) are Suzy and Henry. Repressed dentist Suzy takes her two really cool kids and leaves her total and complete asshole of a husband and moves into the penthouse apartment of a building that used to be a hotel where she is haunted by the ghost of a punk rock front man, Henry. Fun caveat - she is the only one who can see or hear him. HIJINKS ENSUE.

It's not a particularly new concept. In fact, there's a tiny hint of "dude, this could be an episode of Ghost Whisperer" to the idea. HOWEVER! Unlike Ghost Whisperer, Spirited is freaking QUALITY TV. It's creative. The acting is so good that I'm sometimes staggered by how much talent Matt King(Henry the ghost), Claudia Karvan(Suzy the Dentist) and the rest of the cast have.

Oh god, and the blocking and editing in this show. For a show about a dead guy, there is VERY little special effects. Mostly its all about how the actors movements are blocked out in the scene - around him, through him. He appears places and its INSANELY effective but it is mostly editing and blocking choices - where the film's cut together and how the actor or actors move together in the scene. The drama geek in me is fangirling over that element alone.

You should know that this show gives me ALL THE FEELINGS okay? The inevitable romantic element is paced beautifully. Watching all the characters - not just our two protagonists but ESPECIALLY Henry and Suzy - grow is the kind of writing that should be the expected standard. It plays with that "no touching" element like Pushing Daisies but in a different and fresh way that made me want to rend my garments and weep for the characters and all they lost/gained. THEY TURNED EATING CHEESE INTO A CHARACTER/RELATIONSHIP BUILDING SCENE YOU GUYS! Who does that? Answer: Spirited. I leave each episode clutching my pillow going HENRY! SUZY! SHOW!!! /o\

And details - the music and the costuming. Henry's wardrobe looks like The Black Parade and Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club got together and had a love child. Plus there's like - "footage" from when he was alive and I just- for the love of god. Suzy's staid mom-wear next to that mixed with her crazy sister are... I dont even know. Plus, the fictional band in the show has actual music that you can get on iTunes and the like. It's magical.

And if that doesnt reel you in then hey, one of the families living in the building in season one is a polyamorous gay trio. Their relationship isn't seen as anything but normal and sweet and awesome - albeit with issues within the trio. So if that plus ghost romance madness isnt enough to get your attention then I cant help you.

Season 2 is still airing right now and I do not know how I am going to survive waiting a whole few days for the next episode!

I'm working on possibly getting these episodes to share. If I do that, it will be locked. However if you're interested, leave me a comment(or PM me if you're not comfortable with that) and if I decide to share, you wont miss it.

I have been stealthily avoiding reality by watching the Avengers cartoon that came out last year and it is AWESOME you guys. Oh my god. I wish it were a little bit more mature(like network prime time although I would die for Showtime levels of maturity in a superhero show) but its a kids cartoon and for all of that - IT IS SO MUCH FUN. I dont actually care all that much about the plot - except that their Captain America is SO MUCH MORE TRAGIC than in the movie (Bucky died saving him and thats how he ended up in the water! Nooooooooooo). First thing he does when he wakes up? "WHERES BUCKY!??!" All my tears you guys. All of them. But his sexism is showing - which I guess is appropriate? Idk - I like his story better than Chris Evans!Cap but his Cap is so much more LIKABLE than cartoon version. I'm only halfway through so I'm not sure yet if that's just the writing or if its writing + Chris or if its just Chris. But mostly, he is super obsessed with his loss of Bucky. ♥

In other news, Thor is possibly the most ridiculous, adorable thing ever. I mean, he lacks the Hemsworth oh-my-god-how-can-you-exist-and-be-that-good-looking factor but he's got that puppy vibe from the movies minus the confusion and with a healthy dose of purpose except for how he talks like he just walked on stage at an improv night at Globe Theater c. 1599. The sentence "Verily. He has shamed all monkeys with his cowardice" left his mouth. How can you not love that?

Tony is still an ass but in a charming sort of way but he's way bigger on the altruism side - he's still a jerk who makes Pepper's life difficult but I can roll with it. He is mostly just standard Tony Stark from the movie brought from PG-13 to PG (meaning there are no parades of beautiful, slightly misdirected ladies through his mansion/penthouse/office/various and sundry properties and vehicles).

Hulk is like...actually sentient. Since I grew up with the 90s version where the only hulk who could talk was Grey Hulk so that's weird. The fact that he is esentially an emo-kid with a split personality is even weirder. He and Bruce Banner have like...Harvey&John Crichton conversations in mirrors then he is like NO ONE UNDERSTANDS ME! HULK SMASH HIS WAY OUT OF THE CLUB HOUSE BECAUSE YOU DONT REALLY LIKE ME ANYWAY *insert smashing activity for wearing black eyeliner and listening to Bullet For My Valentine and HIM*

Meanwhile Hawkeye and Black Widow and Black Panther and Nick Fury and are all in the background being sneaky and/or creepy.

But mostly, the kick ass factor on this show lives resides in the Wasp (aka Janet Van Dyne). I had never even heard of this chick but seriously, I love her. I want to be Janet Van Dyne when I grow up. She's snarky and ridiculous and is the OPPOSITE of the whole "size matters" argument. She makes herself tiny and kicks ass while being SNARKIER THAN SPIDERMAN. Seriously. Of everyone in the group she's the one who is like "WE SHOULD FIGHT CRIME! IT WOULD BE FUN! COME FIGHT CRIME WITH ME HANK(Ant Man)!" while Henry Pym/Ant Man is like "But Jan... :| there are experiments...:|" She's also so good at writing grant proposals that she funds Ant Man's projects AND lives in a penthouse. Talk about a useful skillset. If that isn't impressive? Nothing is. The fear of having to write grants is one of the things that scares me most about even thinking about applying to grad school. Plus, she's totally the alpha female to Henry's beta male. She loves the whole thing - I've never seen a superhero so HAPPY to be a superhero. It's so charming. She's like "THIS IS ALL THE COOLEST THING EVER! YAY!"

Anyway, I'm loving the shit out this - even though it has what may be THE MOST RIDICULOUS THEME SONG EVER. So hilarious. Seriously. This is no Bad Things With You, I promise you that.

Long Story short - I can't wait to watch the rest but omg I wouldn't live in Marvel-verse NYC for all the jewels in the crown. And I have seen the crown jewels. They're impressive.

Tonight/this morning I am up late. Dude, where is everyone? It's almost 7am on Sunday. *crickets* See? Nada. I know its afternoon/night in Europe and Australia/NZ you guys!

In other news I've written about 4000 words in the last 24hrs. I worked on my [livejournal.com profile] pxp_flashbang(which is like...possibly the sweetest squishest queeniest thing I have ever written in my life). I miss being driven to write like this. If nothing else, the new med cocktail gets to stay for how it makes me creative because I finished the Killjoy Mikey/Pete and I think it is some of the best shit I've written in awhile. I felt it I guess? And its just nice to remember I can do that.
Speaking of: anyone free to do a grammar beta?

This morning I'm resting my brain filling the time replying to comments I should have gotten back to AGES ago. I still havent answered most of my Wave 2 [livejournal.com profile] bandombigbang comments you guys. Yeah. June wasn't a good month for me. But trying now is good, yes? Yes. Brilliant.

*exhales* I am sleeping alot still. 12 hrs at a time if the time allows. Waking up is super tough(like actually pulling myself out of the twilight of an alarm going off and physically getting out of bed). Counter-intuitively, since going crazy I have come more productive, organized, and responsible than I was before. It's been a week and my room is still clean. My homework got done on time. I also see my friends more often. I see Robyn and/or Teresa almost every day, Matt about twice a week, and my roommates are like "we should all hang out and watch tv in the living room together" like we're friends. It's insane. Next to that progress, I will keep the shaking hands, kthanks.

TV is back. Yay! Here's the stuff I have seen/care about. Vague and not spoilery.
Fringe: OMG! YOU BROKE MY HEART, SHOW! FIX IT AND FIX IT NOW! P.S., you are still my favorite thing on TV.
Supernatural: Meh. I thought that all of it was just... the writing wasn't great and the acting feels more blocky than before.
The Big Bang Theory: I love you. I missed you. Never ever change.
Glee: Way to take a HUGE STEP BACKWARDS show. Seriously. At the end of S1 you almost had character development in your show. NOW SEE WHERE YOU ARE? Look at your life, look at your choices.
Grey's Anatomy: I am just glad it's back. I love everyone on this stupid show and I don't actually regret it. OMG how the hell has it been on 7 seasons already? /o\
Private Practice: You are lucky the sex scenes are hot, show. You really are. :|
Top Chef Just Desserts: I want to marry this stupid show and have its sugar coated babies. No lie. Desserts+ merit based competition? I'm so there.
Gossip Girl: I WISH I KNEW HOW TO QUIT YOU! *sob*

Havent seen Chuck, House, or Boardwalk Empire yet. They are on my list but they have been pushed down in favor of old seasons of Australia's Next Top Model. Oh my lord you guys, Aussies, can I just say you do it a hell of a lot better than us? Mostly because you cut out Tyra. And Miss Jay. And Mister Jay. Also? LIVE FINAL? GENIUS. I am in love with it /o\ Maybe because Alex Perry fascinates me. Maybe because I want Charlotte Dawson to have wacky adventures with Tim Gunn. Possibly because if someone curses it doesnt get cut out? I'm not sure but I wish I knew why I gave a damn. I couldn't really tell you. But for some reason, I find it very soothing. Maybe because I know it doesn't actually matter? Maybe it's the accents? I'm not sure. Britain's Next Top Model is close but not quite as mellowing.

I think my violin gets here Monday so that should be awesome. Also, someone really needs to stop me from blowing another 20 bucks and buying the Na Na Na shirt off the MCR website. I need to not do it, okay? I already have more shit than I wear and I dont should save the money. Convince me. Please.

*cough*

So, how are you?

Now that I've made my little nostalgia post. OMG. I HAVE BEEN SO BUSY.

29th? LADY GAGA LIVE AT THE FABULOUS FOX THEATER IN ATLANTA. *falls over* We were in the nosebleeds but let me tell you, the venue was small enough that it didnt really matter. How small? Small enough that there wasnt room for a screen to project her image onto. That free bitch is INSANE and unbelievably creative. Blows my mind. I took...wow, a lot of video. She was amazing. Going with my sister resolved exactly none of our issues but it definitely built a bridge.

Annnnnnnnnnd I finished my [livejournal.com profile] popoffacork fic. That thing ate me and I drowned in it. But I finished it and its *waves* over there somewhere. After the reveal, there will be a post about it. But it got in the way of my [livejournal.com profile] curtainfic which is in the cakeverse that I really will get back to work on when I return to Tally.

Speaking of? I GOT A PRESENT FROM [livejournal.com profile] popoffacork THAT YOU MUST READ! I have no idea who wrote it but it's so fucking charming I could die. It's Mikey/Ray with background Gerard/Brian and it's completely fucking adorable. the furniture and appliances are kind-of alive in a less-pretentious William Carlos Williams magical realism sort of way. It's called Taken My Place. Go read it now. Give the writer so much love. They deserve it.

In other random news? MILLIONARE MATCHMAKER AND CELEBRITY REHAB ARE BACK THIS MONTH! No lie, these are my reality crack. Watch them. They're awful and delicious and I genuinely cant look away.

I'm watching the Three Rivers premiere. I didn't know much about it and didnt really care but, well, I love Kate Moening an unholy amount. That's not enough to dedicate me but it was enough make me tune in. And then, there was Dr. David Lee, transplant surgeon extraordinaire and Ryan Abbott, adorable new assistant to the transplant team. David coerced Ryan into buying donuts. And teases him. And then later, he grabbed Ryan by the shirt front and pushed him into a wall, Jim from the Sentinel style.Did I mention they were hot? And had amazing chemistry? And that this show also has Kate Moening(aka Shane McCutcheon from the L Word)? WATCH IT. KEEP MY NEW SLASH ADDICTION ON THE AIR PLEASE!

The young white guy is Ryan. Hot asian guy is David. Please, David, continue to shove Ryan into this. I wont try and stop you.
